One final item that you may want to consider adding to your kit is a “cheat sheet.” A cheat sheet should include any information that may be of value in a survival situation. This may include first-aid procedures, a list of geographical references for navigating without a map, instructions for tying various knots or a list of edible fruits in the area. You’ll likely want to print out such a list and then have it laminated to protect it. However, it will be easier to pack several small cards rather than a single large card, if your list ends up being rather long.

If a natural disaster hits your area tomorrow, are you thoroughly prepared? Typically, survival kits are designed to help you get through a situation in which help cannot be secured. However, if you equip yourself with a satellite phone you can contact help from anywhere on the planet. In other situations, a pre-paid cell phone or two-way radio (be sure to find out the frequency the local ranger station or emergency responders use) may be all that you need to contact help when you need it most.

"description": "When unexpected emergencies arise having a few key supplies on hand can make all the difference. The Personal Safety Emergency Pack contains basic survival items, signaling devices, and first-aid supplies. A knife will get you a long way but you should also acquire a folding saw. Saws are very efficient at cutting across the grain of wood and this will help with many of the jobs which a knife is not particularly well suited to. Saws are also generally safer to use than knives, making some tasks much less risky than using a knife alone. The Bahco Laplander, effectively a pruning saw, is very well suited to the small woodcraft jobs and firewood processing you’ll be doing. I like this model of saw as the blade is hard to snap (unlike some similar models) and the blade locks both open and closed, meaning the chances of cutting yourself unintentionally are reduced. The size of the jobs it will deal with is of a similar scale to those your bushcraft knife will tackle comfortably. The two tools together form a powerful combination for little weight and limited cost.
The best way to respond to each emergency situation is different for everyone, so preparing for a disaster scenario will be unique to your location and individual needs. In some cases, you might need a simple hygiene kit to keep clean while you wait out the storm. In other cases, you’ll need to start a fire to keep warm during a disaster scenario. Many of our kits come with ready-made meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The 2nd Morakniv entry on our list is the Craftline Pro S Fixed Blade Utility Knife. It looks like something that belongs in your kitchen but really comes to life when you need it in the wild. The Craftline bushcraft knife has a 3 ⅝ inch blade crafted from high grade stainless steel and an overall length of 8 ¼ inches which puts it firmly in the mid-sized category of bushcraft knives. The TPE rubber handle which is responsible for giving the knife a more domestic air is actually incredibly comfortable and allow you to hold your grip even while leaning into more labor intensive tasks like splitting wood.
Thanks Paul for a straight forward article. The problem with YouTube is many of the contributors have hugely different motivations for their videos and what they want to get out of being outdoors differs hugely. One thing I don’t feel many of these videos mention is how important getting to know your gear is. Just because a piece of equipment suits a clique on YouTube doesn’t mean it will suit your purposes or even be worth the space/weight in your pack. Maybe it’s better to start off with not so expensive, get to know the item and it either does the job or not, then go more expensive if it’s necessary. I still use many of my cheaper items I started with, they’re tried and trusted items and highly valued.
This is not your average EDC knife. This is a big, aggressive blade that’s meant for heavy duty cutting and whittling, heavy duty cleaning of large game and even light wood chopping duties. The spine of the blade can be used to activate your firestarter and will send a generous shower of sparks raining down on your kindling, birch bark or whatever. The belt loop and sheath are both well-made and hold the blade securely while you hike or work around the campsite. All in all the condor Walnut Bushcraft Knife with its 4 ½ inch blade is up to whatever task you need it to perform. And it’s available at a very reasonable price. 5 DAYS eating ONLY WILD FOODS! | Survival Challenge | The Wilderness Living Challenge 2017 SEASON 2
