Sir Edmund Hillary and his Nepalese sherpa Tenzing Norgay made the final ascent to Mount Everest in 1953 with 30-pound survival packs. The expedition began with 400 men and 10,000 pounds of baggage, but for that last treacherous day of thin air and blizzard conditions, these men had to rely on themselves and their survival gear to reach the top and get safely back to camp.

A quality hatchet can be a true lifesaver when it comes to building shelters and processing firewood in a wilderness survival setting. And it’s darn handy when you’re just camping in the local woods, too. Designed by Vietnam veteran Elmer Roush, the new CRKT Pack Axe is a tiny titan. Tipping the scales at a bantam weight of only 1.14 pounds, and less than a foot long, even the gram-conscious minimalists have to take notice. This beautifully built camp axe is made with 1060 carbon steel that is hot forged into very durable blade. It also has the bonus of a hammer poll (for pounding in stakes and such). Tennessee hickory is the wood of choice used for the hatchet handle, and it comes lacquer coated for a longer lifespan. If you’re looking for small axe that can tackle big jobs, check this one out. But don’t freak out when it arrives: it does not come with a sheath. You’ll have to provide your own. After all, it’s Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT), not Columbia River Knife and Tool and Leather Works (CRKTLW). I’m sure you needed to practice your leather work anyway. It should also be known that 10 percent of the profits on this tool go to the Green Beret Foundation. Way to go, CRKT!
The modern sparking devices known variously as a Swedish Firesteel, fireflash or ferro rod are the most widely applicable gadgets for creating sparks. The sparks they produce are bright white (i.e. very hot) and relatively large, thus the range of different materials that they ignite is the broadest of any of the sparking devices. I would recommend investing in one of these and learning to generate good sparks with it. Then see what you can ignite with your sparks. Do be careful in dry conditions, however, as fires can quickly spread even from the smallest sparks. Remember to seek the correct permissions needed to have a fire in your jurisdiction.

Another man recalls the Snowmageddon of 2014, when the normally balmy Atlanta, Georgia suffered the brunt of a major storm. The response from government leaders worsened the result—by dismissing schools and closing businesses at the same time, tens of thousands of people were caught in a freezing gridlock for hours with no food, water, or means to stay warm. This is the biggest bushcraft knife blade on our list and one of the biggest you’ll find period. It is meant for heavy duty tasks though it’s so well balanced and engineered it can also handle finesse jobs. Speaking of “handle”, the handle here is another Schrade winner that looks way too attractive to be of much use but which actually kicks butt in both the grip and comfort departments. There’s a nylon sheath that attaches to your belt but realistically, at more than a foot in length, this may be too much knife to be comfortably toting on your belt. However you carry it though it’s here to serve your survival needs be they be hacking your way through unforgiving underbrush or scaling your catch.
The "Lamps, that's pretty but that's better when that's useful!" said the old uncle, cloistered in his devastated wooden cabin. Then came the survivors, armed with lamps and picks. "What are you doing in my house? Get out of here!" But the villagers stayed, and put their lamps in the old man's house. "But how is that possible? No one can place objects in my house except myself!" And the villagers left, without a word. Several minutes later, the ghouls landed in the old man's cabin. They destroyed the walls and doors. The man felt his time coming. The ghouls approached and, one by one, disappeared into the lights of the Christmas neon lights. The lamps were finally useful, and the old uncle shouted, "Well, that's what I was saying! Lamps, that's pretty but that's better when that's useful!"

Unfortunately, some outdoor enthusiasts find themselves being threatened by nefarious people or dangerous animals. This leads some to keep a weapon or self-defense tool in their survival kit, in order to be better prepared for a worst-case scenario. Your self-defense tool may take the form of a knife or gun, but be sure to consider less-than-lethal items too. This would include things like stun guns, pepper spray, and telescoping batons. Just be sure to follow all local laws and regulations before packing any type of weapon or self-defense tool in your survival kit.

Although none of these details have been confirmed by Bethesda, they paint a likely picture. One of Fallout 4's biggest additions to the series was a base-building mechanic -- and Rust is a survival game that's very much about building defensible buildings and surviving the onslaught of the wilderness and other players. Considering that the Fallout series takes place in a lawless post-apocalyptic wasteland, a Rust-type game could be a good match. Extreme Primitive Desert Survival
